This is a vision of what could be. Or, as Andre Henry says, “It doesn’t have to be this way.”
This word made me think of a landscape at twilight. The stars are coming out and it’s hard to see. That could be a mountain range, that might be something bigger beyond it, perhaps that’s the faint light of equality?
I had a random test painting that’s been laying around my studio for years, and it happened to be the silhouette of a person, so I painted over that exact silhouette, half in black, half in white. I used a splash effect to create circles in the sky, reminiscent of the cycles of the moon (the passage of time).
With everything that’s happened in the first half of 2020, the most encouraging thing I’ve seen is that the bestselling book lists are filled with the words of Ibram X. Kendi, and so many others. It gives me hope that real change is on the horizon.
