These are small 6×6 studies on watercolor block based on dictionary.com’s Word of the Day. These originated with my haiku series, but it’s much quicker for me to paint a small piece based only on the word, without writing a haiku. These pieces are more focused on the feeling of the word, or the picture that immediately comes to mind. They end up with a looser, more freestyle feel because I have lower expectations for the amount of time I’ll be spending on them (usually always completed in a single sitting, an hour or so). In this series, I don’t always paint the word for that day. If there’s a particular word that’s stood out recently, that’s generally the one that gets illustrated.
